Though there are some basic differences, playing pontoon is just like playing blackjack. In playing pontoon, each player and the dealer has to deal two cards that are facing down. The dealer has the power of looking into own cards but these have to remain facing down until all the players have already completed their own hands. It is called pontoon when the dealer already had an ace and a 10-point card. The dealer then has to turn the cards facing up while all other pontoon players will lose such a hand to the dealer.

If no player can get a "fragment" when the first two cards are dealt, the goal is to get a number closer to 21. Anything above that number is likely to lose the hand. If the sum is less than 15, the player may claim another card by ordering a hit or buying a new card. If prompted, you will be given the card face up and if purchased face down. This may continue until the player has a number higher than 15 but not higher than 21. The player must "stand" once they are satisfied with the hand.

When all players have already completed their hand, the dealer must play his hand. The dealer is not allowed to stand when the score of cards is less than 17. If the dealer is busted i.e. if his cards are more than 21 then he has to pay all players based on their hand. If the dealer's score is anywhere from 17 to 21, the dealer may actually be able to stand but has to pay all other players whose score is higher than his hand. whose score is higher than his hand.

There are two ways of beating 21. First is through a pontoon, that is, an ace and a 10-poin card. Second is through having a 5-card trick. Such a trick occurs when the player was able to have five cards in total which score is lower than 21. These are paid out with a 2 to 1 ratio when they beat the hand of the dealer. However, if the dealer has a pontoon or a 5-card trick, the player having the 5-card trick as well will not be paid.

In pontoon, there is a possibility of splitting the hand. If the first 2 cards of the player have the same value, the player may split the hand and then play the two sets. You may play both hands wherein the dealer has to provide you with two extra cards. Of course, you have to play both hands as you would normally do with a single hand. The payout will be also the same as the normal payout.

Evidently, playing pontoon can be very exciting and even new players can win big sums of payout. As a player, you will have control on hitting, buying and standing. While playing pontoon appears to be simplistic, you still need to learn some strategies.
