The gambling industry is an
ever-sophisticating
industry. The truth is the
gambling industry continues
to proliferate and penetrate
other industries including
the movie, redefining how
one should approach
entertainment and
recreation. Today, there is
a list of what people called
the most popular casino
movies, some of which are
discussed below.
One of the popular casino
movies is “Casino” based on
the written authored by
Nicholas Pileggi and Larry
Shandling. Released in 1995,
“Casino” has Martin Scorsese
as its director. In
“Casino”, the main
protagonist Sam “Ace”
Rothstein was played by
Robert De Niro. Such a
character was actually based
on Frank Rosthal. Rosenthal
ran the Stardust Casino,
which was known to be
running to finance mafia
activities, in the 1970s. In
the movie, Rothstein was
forced to follow the mafia
due to gambling charges
elsewhere. Nicky Santoro,
which was played by actor
Joe Pesci, was sent to offer
protection to Rothstein.
Instead, he ran his own
casino, and then conflict
started. “Casino” offers a
love angle through Ginger
McKenna, which was played by
Sharon Stone. McKenna was
Rothsteinís love interest.
Yet another popular casino
movie is “Croupier” which
was released in 1998.
“Croupier” revolves around
the story of an aspiring
writer Jack Manfred, which
was played by actor Clive
Owen. Owen is working as a
croupier when he discovered
that there are more to his
life that is connected with
casino gaming. Owen's
girlfriend Marion, who was
played by actress Gina
McKee, disagreed with his
decision and tension began
to escalate. Manfred
realized that he can become
his own novel's hero, which
he noted as immoral Jake,
when he subjected himself
into playing casino games
thereby making an
unforgettable work of
fiction.
Another popular casino movie
is the “High Roller: The Stu
Ungar Story”. Released in
2003, Michael Imperioli
played the key character Stu
Ungar. Ungar is considered
as one of the most prominent
players in the world of
poker. Ungar won three World
of Series Poker and one
Super Bowl Poker tournament
titles. His total winnings
escalate to millions of
dollars only to be lost to
horse racing and drug
addiction, leading to his
untimely death in year 1998.
High Rollers revolves around
Ungar's marital
relationship. His life was
traced back when he was
living in lower Manhattan
and in legendary winning in
WSOP.
“The Cooler”, which was
released in 2003, is another
popular casino movie. “The
Cooler” is considered as the
most unique casino movie.
Bernie Lootz, the key actor,
was not even a gambler but
he is such a jinx that when
he stands next to gamblers,
winning becomes impossible.
This represented the primary
reason why he was employed
by a Las Vegas casino, so as
to minimize the winnings of
the gamblers. However, he
gradually became lucky when
he developed feelings, and
fell for Natalie, who was a
waitress. The casino could
only intervene to make his
life miserable. William H.
Macy played Lootz while
Maria Bello played Natalie.
The last popular casino
movie in the list is “Casino
Royale” which was released
in 2006. “Casino Royale” is
a James Bond movie. Bond was
played by Daniel Craig, who
will do everything to stop
Le Chiffre, a bank man, to
use his winnings in a poker
tournament to pay his debts
